thinking ahead for Thanksgiving

Assuming I get a small one that fits, can I cook a whole turkey in an oven bag in a crockpot? Will the skin come out soggy? I'd really love to avoid setting off the smoke alarm this Thanksgiving.

I've cooked a whole chicken in mine

and yes, the skin is soggy. I don't eat the skin anyway, so I don't really mind, though DS13 is less than impressed. We do prefer a chicken roasted in the oven, but I still use the crockpot when it's convenient. I put carrots and potatoes in the bottom, the whole chicken on top and pour a couple of cups of stock in too.

I have to admit I don't know what an oven bag is! Maybe the skin wouldn't go soggy if you use one of those?

temperature

Oh, and I read something something somewhere about needing to use the highest heat setting for at least some of the cooking time, as with whole poultry it is important that it reaches a certain temperature to kill bacteria. I give it an hour or so on high, and then turn it down for the rest of the time.
