Now you've done it!

I am now a knitter...with a dishcloth (stockinette) and three scarves (one all knit stitches, one in knit-a-row/purl-a-row, and one in a knit-2/purl-2 rib using a bright, thick wool that turned out amazing) on my "finished" list. I have yarn for another scarf) waiting...but what to start after that?????
I haven't worked with measuring gauge, yet...nor increasing/decreasing stitches...
Are simple hats where I should go?
Or shawl? (I wear one often...especially at home)
Or Poncho?
Should I learn decorative stitches next? (I've been knitting only since New Years...)
Come on, you pros...whaere do I go from here?

depends what you want
But if you often wear a shawl, sure, start there.
ah my evil plan is working!
The Wool Board pays me in yarn to get you all knitting! mwahahaha!
Pick something you WANT to knit. I strongly suggest getting the book The Knit Stitch and picking something from there. There's nothing you shouldn't be able to make in there, and the patterns are very creative. How creative? It's a beginner's book and I own it.

me too!
I am in the same position as you Lenora, having recently graduated from dishcloths and teacosies to scarves. You should try Lynn's teacosy pattern, it's simple and fun
I must knit another one of those actually, I have a new, tiny (one cup) teapot.
I've been wondering what to try next. I can't be doing with complicated patterns, The kind that have lots of different rows that make up the pattern just lose me completely. I lose count altogether, can't tell from the look of the knitting where I am up to, have no real life knitters to help me so end up unpicking it and giving up.
My original plan was to try socks, with the idea of knitting bedsocks for Christmas presents next year, but I am overwhelmed and freaked out by the patterns . Too complicated for words, at least without a real life knitting friend to show me in person
Might have to treat myself to that book! I have bought so many books on the recommendation of my TNH friends (the last one was your organising book, Lenora! I'll let you know how I get on with THAT)
DONE!
Okay, I ordered it. I read the reviews on Amazon UK and it has legwarmers!! I want legwarmers! Not sure all the relatives are going to want them for Christmas but hey...
Lenora
How are you doing Lenora? What are you going to make next? I have some fluffy red yarn to make myself a scarf with. I'm going to knit two strands at a time with big needles, so it will only take a few hours.
After that I will knit something from my new book - yes, it's arrived and I'm very impressed. Nice patterns, easy to understand. Great legwarmers!
Well, Honey...
I'm still on the "another scarf." (see first post!) I started it last weekend, but then didn't pick it up again until last night. It seems to be an excellent activity to accompany watching tv...but I've had a new book and I can't read and knit at the same time...and around here a new book takes priority over tv everytime! (I read Teacher Man by Frank McCourt...LOVED it!)
I should finish this scarf this evening and then I decided to try a simple knit hat. I've lost my digital camera or I'd post pics
Blessings,
Lenora

So Frustrated!
I've been a beginner knitter for so long. I'm always starting new projects, making big mistakes, never finishing.
I bought the Knit Stich on Lynn's recommendation. Love it! I like her meditations on knitting. I like her point about knitting not being about instant gratification. I need to get over the instant gratification.
I started on the pancho two days ago and have been obsesed! No sleep, no gym, no picking up toys, just knit until every part of me is cramped and tired. It was all going so well, I was excited to finally see success and couldn't put it down.
Well, I finished tonight. It took me DH and DS an hour to figure out how to sew it all together from the pictures. And now that it is done it is SO ugly! I picked a multi colored yarn thinking it looked so bright and springy and fun, just like DD (who it was being made for). Sigh, it looks like someone threw up Fruit Loops on my daughter. Just a limp mass of blurred colors.
Ah well, at least I finally finished a project! My first finished project, can't be too frustrated about that!
Kelly
That's a shame!
Hi Kelly! Sorry to hear your poncho didn't turn out the way you hoped! Always so disappointing when you put a lot of work in and it doesn't come out well. Right now I've got a project that's taking me a while and I already know my husband hates it. It's a baby blanket made of this sunshine yellow and sea green boucle yarn. I though it might be good for a baby of unknown gender, which my sister-in-law's was when I started it (turns out it'll be a boy). Every time my husband looks at it, he says, "It's chartreuse!" It's not, quite--it's both green and yellow together. He asked me the other night to please give it away so it can't possibly become an heirloom. I rather like it, but I am a little worried that my SIL will privately think it's terrible, too. Oh well.
I'm so impressed with all these projects everyone seems to be finishing! Mine never go that fast!
Warming up to it
I washed, blocked, fixed the stiches around the neck and added the fringe. I feel much better because it is DONE! And I made it all by myself! It it still quite hideous but it is my hideous.
Knitted Shawls Anyone? Pinkroses.
I would like to know if any of you are knitting shawls what patter are you using . and yarn type. I am thinking on knitting a prayer shawl. Not sure what type of yarn yet. I am currently knitted discloths for a internet buddy of mine in Michagan. pinkroses.
Did you block it?
Get it damp and pin it out to the measurements it's supposed to be. That'll help. Worse comes to worse, you can unravel it and try a different pattern. Some yarns just aren't meant to be certain things.
I'm sorry it didn't turn out! I can't tell you how often that happened to me when I first got serious about my knitting. It gets better.
